Peppermint Oil Uses

Peppermint oil can be used for many purposes including arthritis, appetite suppression, back issues, candida, cold sores, concentration, dermatitis, digestive issues, eczema, fungal infections, gallbladder issues, headaches, herpes zoster, human papilloma virus, inflammation, itchy skin, lumbago, memory, nausea, obesity, pain, parasites, pneumonia, psoriasis, respiratory infections, rheumatism, scoliosis, skin conditions, tuberculosis, varicose veins, viral infections and weight control.

It has many different uses due to the fact that it is made up of many different compounds.  Some of these compounds have analgesic (pain relieving) properties, appetite suppression properties, anti inflammation properties, antiparasitic (worms) properties, antiviral properties.  Other peppermint oil uses are as digestive stimulants and yet others relate to gall bladder issues.  One of my favorite stories for peppermint oil is one I would like to share with you.  My friend Kay uses this oil for headaches.  She puts a drop or two in the palm of one hand, uses the index finger of the other hand to make three clockwise circles in the palm of her first hand, and then she puts this across her forehead....be careful not to get it in your eyes though.  She swears by it.

Peppermint oil can also be combined with other oils for more power and effectiveness when treating certain ailments.  Combine Peppermint with the essential oil of basil, marjoram, lavender and cypress and it produces an anti inflammatory and muscle relaxing blend that promotes circulation.  This blend helps muscles that are aching, tight, spasmed, or inflamed from fatigue, injury or stress.  This blend is a favorite of massage therapists.

Did you know that peppermint oil can be used for:

  • Scalp Health: Peppermint oil is a natural astringent and helps to balance your scalps acid mantle. It can also normalize sebum production and protect against oily skin.
  • Hair Growth: Because of its ability to relax blood vessels and stimulate blood flow to hair follicles, peppermint oil has also been used to stimulate hair growth.

Finally, if you’re into aromatherapy then you should try peppermint oil for:

  • Stress Relief: it has been used to induce relief from anxiety, stress, headache and depression.

I have an electric vaporizer and like to regularly burn peppermint oil while I sleep- especially after a stressful day.
